A scenic and historical trip
The adventure begins on the ancient Kuldjin Road, which was once part of the Great Silk Road that many centuries ago was used by caravans on their way to China. Your guide will tell you about this legendary route, the different peoples who lived here, and their rich cultural traditions and beliefs.
As you travel through this picturesque landscape, you will see to your left the vast open plains of the Great Steppe, where herds of nomads still roam. On your right, the rugged snow-capped peaks of the Tien Shan Mountains rise majestically, creating a stunning contrast with the steppe.
Little brother” of the Grand Canyon
The Charyn Canyon stretches for 154 km and its depth reaches 300 meters. You will visit one of its most iconic sections – the Valley of Castles, named so for the rock formations towering above it, reminiscent of ancient fortresses. A leisurely 2.5 km walk along a well-maintained path at the bottom of the canyon will give you unparalleled views from all sides. Along the way, your guide will tell you about the myths and legends of this region, as well as about the amazing flora, fauna and geological layers that are millions of years old.
The Charyn River and the thrilling ride
Once you reach the Charyn River, your return to the bus will be an exciting experience. You’ll board a local cab – an open UAZ Bukhanka – and take a breezy ride through the canyon, passing its towering stone arches and rock formations. Finally, you’ll climb up to the observation deck for a panoramic view of the canyon from above, an unforgettable sight that will leave you in awe.
